MILLGROVE CABINS

At the start of the pandemic, this family of four realized they would need to expand their storage & living spaces to make the most of their family home. They approached Architecture Riot to design two accessory buildings in their rear-yard that could better serve their family. The resultant design consist of two 108 sq ft ADUs - one for storage and one as a multi-use space for working from home, a play area for the children, or guest room for out of towners or a mother’s suite.

The two cabins are connected with a concrete deck and provide access to exterior firewood storage, catering to the family’s love for outdoor gatherings by the fire-pit. Strategically placed windows maximize daylight and frame the surrounding landscape, while heated floors and wood interior finishes create a warm interior. The exterior facades speak to the existing family home’s pitched roof, and draw upon the home’s materials to create a similar palette which respects the existing context but provides a modern twist
